The class of 1950

The 1950 Yearbook XI only have a few players like Fillol, Tresor and Lato who are commonly known. The rest is stars in their native countries and proven winners in  big teams like Celtic, Benfica, Real Madrid, Juventus and Czechoslovakia. See player descriptions below.

The 1950 Yearbook XI

GK: Ubaldo Fillol; is considered to be one of the greatest goalkeepers and regarded as the best Argentine goalkeeper ever. He took part in the 1974, 1978 (where he won the championship with his team and was voted Best Goalkeeper) and 1982 World Cups. He wore number 5 at the 1978 World Cup, because Argentina gave players their numbers alphabetically.
RB: Danny McGrain; Regarded as one of Scotland's greatest players. Winning seven League Championships, five Scottish Cups and two Scottish League Cup with Celtic. Considered by many to be one of the best full-backs in the world at the time. His abilities included a burst of speed, skill and control on the ball, vision and anticipation and, when required, a strong but fair sliding tackle.
CB: Marius Tresor; is considered as one of the best central defenders of all time, and he is regarded as one of France's greatest ever players. He represented France at the 78' and 82' World Cups and won the French league with Bordeaux in 1984.
CB: Humberto Coelho; was regarded as one of the best stoppers in Portuguese football. He won 8 Portuguese championships with Benfica.
LB: Anton Ondrus; considered one of the best defenders of the seventies. He captained Czechoslovakia to the 1976 European Championship, where they won against Cruyff's Netherland and Beckenbauer's Germany.
RM: Marian Masny; 1976 European Champion with Czechoslovakia and 3rd placed in the 1980 edition. Kevin Keegan described Masný as "one of the world's most skilful wingers" after a match against England.
CM: Vicente del Bosque; mostly known as one of the greatest and most successful managers of all time. As a player he won La Liga 5 times with Real Madrid.
CM: Ion Dumitri; Regarded as one of Romania's greatest players.
LM: Grzegorz Lato;  is one of the great World Cup legends. He won the golden boot at the 1974 World Cup where Poland finished 3rd after Germany and Netherland. Lato won another bronze medal in 1982 World Cup. In 20 World Cup matches he scored 10 goals and assisted another 7.
FW: Roberto Bettega; described as one of Italy's greatest ever players due to his strength, skill, goalscoring ability, and creativity. He won 7 Italian championships with Juventus, scoring 148 goals.
FW: Paolo Pulici; A fast, dynamic, and physically strong player, he was particularly gifted in the air and was known for his ability to score acrobatic goals. With 172 goals in all competitions, he is the all-time record goalscorer for Torino.

-The XI is based on one player for each position born in the given year.
-All XI’s is made with regards of balance in the team.
-Well known players who are left out will be named on the bench, for a better view on the generations strength. Therefore this should not be a discussion on each player individuel or if they should be on the XI.
